J N 'Ding' Darling National Wildlife Refuge:(60-75 Mins) Worth a visit. Found on Sanibel Island a 4 mile drive offers viewing of water birds and the mangrove estuary system. ($5 Car, $1 Hiker/Biker) or take a guided tram tour.
The Everglades: (120 Mins) Take a trip south of Naples, around the swamps on a Hover-boat, see Racoons, Alligators and other Wildlife.

Busch Gardens: (90 Mins) Situated in Tampa, a Fun Theme Park with Animals, Shows, and Great Rides. (Roller-Coasters and Water Rides).

Several fishing trips are available on Placida and Beach Road. Organized trips include licence and use of equipment.

Note: State law requires a license for salt or fresh water fishing, available at bait shops and K-Mart.

Shopping:

Florida is great for shopping. Locally there is a large mall in Port Charlotte. Wall Mart often has bargains. Prime Outlets in Ellenton is a designer outlet and is worth a visit on your way back to Tampa airport, it is situated on I75 north of Bradenton.
